My ballot for the preseason Top 25. And why.

Mike Farrell’s preseason Top 25

1. Georgia

— Do I need to explain why a dynasty is on top?

2. Michigan

— The best roster Jim Harbaugh has had, and that’s scary.

3. Ohio State

— The QB will be fine. It’s the defense that’s the question, but this is an elite roster.

4. Florida State

— The new kings of the ACC? It’s gonna be close, but they have the talent.

Dec 29, 2022; Orlando, Florida, USA; Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis (13) drops back to pass against the Oklahoma Sooners in the first quarter during the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl at Camping World Stadium.

5. Alabama

— Don’t get against Nick Saban, and all this talk of 4 possible losses is garbage.

6. LSU

— I have my questions about them (running back, Jayden Daniels staying healthy), but this is a great roster.

7. Clemson

— If Cade Klubnik is any good, this is a 10-win season.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is interviewed by ESPN near quarterback Cade Klubnik (2), game MVP, after the game with North Carolina in the ACC Championship football gameat Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina Saturday, Dec 3, 2022. Clemson won 39-10.

8. Utah

— The best in the PAC 12? Yep, book it.

— A loaded team with one of the best defenses in the country.

Apr 15, 2023; University Park, PA, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions defensive end Chop Robinson (44) pressures quarterback Beau Pribula (9) during the fourth quarter of the Blue White spring game at Beaver Stadium. The Blue team defeated the White team 10-0.

10. USC

— Caleb Williams is great, but can the defense hold up?

11. Texas

— From a roster perspective, they are the best in the Big 12 but don’t stack up nationally.

12. Tulane

— Michael Pratt and a nasty pass rush will land them in New Year’s Six.

Dec 3, 2022; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; Tulane Green Wave quarterback Michael Pratt (7) rushes in for a touchdown against the UCF Knights during the second half at Yulman Stadium.

13. Kentucky

— Too high? Not if they fix the OL issues. This is a scary team.

14. Oregon

— Bo Nix being healthy all season means a PAC 12 title push.

15. Washington

— The offense is loaded, but can they stay healthy on defense?

16. Texas Tech

— Joey McGuire taught this team to win close games last season.

Texas Tech’s head coach Joey McGuire calls for a timeout against Oklahoma in their last Big 12 home football game, Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, Jones AT&T Stadium.

17. Tennessee

— The offense will take a small step back, but the defense will be a smidge better.

18. Wisconsin

— The Air Raid will actually help the rushing attack.

19. North Carolina

— If the defense can improve just a little bit, they are in business.

20. Notre Dame

— Sam Hartman might not be the savior many think, but this is still a solid team.

Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman (10) drops back to pass and is protected by offensive lineman Quinn Murphy (53) during the Notre Dame Blue-Gold Spring Football game on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend.

21. TCU

— Sonny Dykes is an excellent coach, and the defense will be elite.

22. Iowa

— Cade McNamara makes them better instantly on offense, and the defense is nasty.

23. South Carolina

— Shane Beamer is a great fit, and this roster could be dangerous a year from now.

Oct 22, 2022; Columbia, South Carolina, USA; South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer encourages the crowd against the Texas A&M Aggies in the second half at Williams-Brice Stadium.

24. UTSA

— Frank Harris and company will pull a few upsets.

25. Louisville

— I love Jeff Brohm as a fit, and Louisville is my ACC sleeper.
