Oklahoma State came into the 2024 season as many people’s favorite to win the Big 10 championship.
After winning the first three non-conference games, the Cowboys lost nine straight to finish the season.
They went 0-9 and finished last in the Big 12.
To make matters worse, Gundy made comments criticizing fans as “weak” and “want to point the finger
and blame other people” when times are tough, later saying they are “the same ones that can’t pay
their bills.”
The new contract calls for Gundy to take a $1 million pay cut, elimination of the annual rollover, a
reduced buyout, and increased engagement in fundraising and donor activities. It also includes the
groundwork for an eventual succession plan.
In 2025, Gundy will make $6.875 million, with an annual increase of $125,000 per year. With no
rollover, this contract becomes a four-year deal. His buyout would be $15 million in the first three years
and $10 million in the last year.

Gundy’s increased involvement in fundraising and donor engagement will be handled at athletic director Chad Weiberg’s
request and can include anything from large gatherings to one-on-one events.
Gundy will have his chance to turn the Cowboy program in the right direction. The only thing that
seems to be missing from the new contract is a “haircut clause.”
