Mind of Mike: More Mixed Messages from Boulder

Coach Prime and his sons flaunt their wealth at the same time that Shilo files for bankruptcy

College football fans who don’t like Deion Sanders often refer to the happenings in Boulder as a circus. And the latest with Deion’s son Shilo continues to give them ammunition.

Obviously the 2023 football season started strong for Colorado with an upset win over TCU followed by wins over Nebraska and Colorado State. However, reality hit hard with a trip to Oregon and the rest is history — 4-8 (1-8) and last place. But year two brings promise with the return of QB Shedeur Sanders, star ATH Travis Hunter and defensive stalwart Shilo Sanders. But off-field fodder continues for the haters.

It has been reported that Shilo Sanders filed for bankruptcy in regard to a lawsuit against him years ago.

And now the mixed messages continue for the Sanders family. With Shadeur flashing expensive watches on the field to modeling and acting gigs for both sons and pretending to buy their dad a million-dollar house on their YouTube channel, the impression many have had is that the Sanders brothers are making big money in the NIL world. Heck, Shilo has an NIL valuation from On3 at over one million dollars.

So what are we to believe? NIL valuations are made-up garbage. We all know this. But the Sanders brothers always seem to be living the rich life, whether it’s Deion’s money or their own. They strut with expensive watches and clothing, carry expensive accessories, and pretend to shop for extravagant houses. But now Shilo is broke?

Bankruptcy, in this case, is more about avoiding a potential $11 million dollar lawsuit for Shilo that comes from allegedly injuring a man back in high school. But to the haters, it’s another example of a confusing message coming from the Sanders family in Boulder. Deion has famously insinuated that he wanted more privacy for his team while signing up for a Netflix documentary that covers their every move and having Deion Sanders Jr. document everything they do for his company. Deion has said how heartbreaking it was when one of his incoming transfers wasn’t deemed eligible and how it would affect that player’s mental health while running 75% of his inherited roster into the portal without care. Deion has said “We Coming” with his massive portal class and then publicly diminished the abilities of those who left after a year. And now this?

Sep 16, 2023; Boulder, Colorado, USA; Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders (21) runs for a touchdown after making an interception against the Colorado State Rams during the first half at Folsom Field.

The list goes on and on about the confusing hypocrisy and mixed messages in Boulder, and this Shilo news is just the latest. More is coming, and the documentary that will someday be made of this era in Boulder, and not by the Sanders family, will be eye-opening.

So, for the haters who claim this is simply a circus, they have more fodder this week. Is more coming, or will they be eating their words when Colorado takes the Big 12 by storm? My guess is the former, but time will tell.
