Nicest Head Coaches I’ve Ever Dealt With

Plenty of college coaches have bad reputations, but here are five who I think are the nicest to deal with

1. Mack Brown

Still No. 1 and kind of by a lot. No matter how much success he has, he always has time and a kind word for everyone and he has become a national treasure for college football who isn’t appreciated enough.

2. Mike Riley

Nebraska fans aren’t happy with his tenure but I can tell you this — anyone who met the man will rave about him as a person. And the jobs he had weren’t easy and carried stress including the amazing job he did at Oregon State.

Nov 24, 2017; Lincoln, NE, USA; Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Mike Riley leaves the field at halftime during their game with the Iowa Hawkeyes at Memorial Stadium.

3. Mark Richt

Just a great person whose religious beliefs dictated the way he treated people. Was he too nice to win big at Georgia? Maybe.

Former Georgia football coach Mark Richt is honored during halftime of a NCAA college football game between Missouri and Georgia in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021.

4. Bobby Bowden

Just an amazing personality who had an edge when he needed it but was always friendly and affable and always had a word of advice.

Legendary Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden looks up at the replay screen during his final game against West Virginia at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for the Gator Bowl Friday January 1, 2010.

5. Gary Pinkel

Just a good guy and the rare straight shooter who didn’t make you feel dumb or talk down to you.
