While the 2025 NFL draft doesn’t have the top end talent of the 2024 NFL draft in terms of big-name, franchise-altering quarterbacks, it does have a few top quarterbacks that are on teams’ radars and who I feel would be perfect fits for quarterback-needy teams in this years draft.
Shedeur Sanders
New York Giants (Pick #3)
The New York Giants are in desperate need of a quarterback. While I am not the biggest fan of his as a player, Shedeur Sanders, makes perfect sense. The Giants have the third overall pick and cannot role into the 2025-2026 season with Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito as their plan at quarterback. With head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen coaching and managing for their jobs this upcoming season, taking a quarterback at number three seems like the right choice.
Sanders, the son of Colorado head coach and former NFL superstar, Deion Sanders, has made it clear he wants to play for the Giants and at the very least wants to play for a big market team which the Giants are. Sanders has made it clear that there are a couple teams he does not want Shedeur to play for, and it looks like Sanders will fall into the Giants’ laps.
The NFL is transitioning more and more into the mobile quarterback system which is perfect for Sanders as he made many shifty plays with his legs at Colorado, primarily extending plays, along with exceptional success throwing the ball. In this past season he threw for over 4,000 yards, 37 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. This goes along with a 74% completion percentage and a 168.2 quarterback rating. Sanders is an uber-confident young man which the Giants love and both parties came out saying their recent meetings with one another went very well, all making it seem that Sanders is the perfect fit to be the next great New York Giants quarterback.

Cam Ward
Las Vegas Raiders (Pick #6)
The University of Miami Quarterback is widely regarded as the best quarterback in this years draft and he would slide right into that Las Vegas Raiders quarterback room and give them some identity. Something they have been lacking for quite some time. You could argue the Raiders haven’t had a franchise quarterback since Ken Stabler and with the newly hired Pete Carroll not getting any younger, he wants to bring the Raiders back to their winning ways as fast as he can. The easiest way to do that is with a franchise QB.

Ward started his career at FCS Incarnate Word before jumping to Washington State and transferring to Miami this past season, leading the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record and was third in the Heisman voting. The reason he is a perfect fit for the Raiders is because he reminds me of Russell Wilson coming out of college, who was drafted and immediately put in the starting role by Carroll.
Wilson too was a little older and a little undersized coming out of college but had a good deep ball and was very electric with his legs. Ward is very similar; he is a little short for a quarterback at 6’1″ but is very creative in and out of the pocket and has a great deep ball. With already some of the leagues best at quarterback in the AFC West with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Bo Nix the Raiders need to get their own franchise QB if they want to compete. With weapons like Jakobi Myers and Brock Bowers, Ward could step in and improve the Raiders from Day 1.

Jaxson Dart
Los Angeles Rams (Pick #26)
The third big name quarterback that is rising draft boards as of late is Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart. Dart, in his three seasons as the starter for the Rebels threw for over 20 touchdown passes every year and brought Ole Miss back to its winning ways, winning 8+ games every year with 10 and 11 wins the last two seasons. Dart has a massive arm and is also quite mobile, with over 100 rushing attempts in each of the last three seasons. His one big downside is that he has spotty decision making and needs to do better going through his progressions.
That is something Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams can fix in a heart beat, making Dart the perfect fit in LA. While the Rams have Matthew Stafford, he isn’t getting any younger and the Rams know they need to find his replacement sooner rather than later. Dart is widely regarded as someone who needs to sit a year in the NFL and get experience could get a ton of experience and have one of the best mentors helping him along the way in Stafford. He could then come in and already have a good, experienced team around him and be able to dart up his receivers and lead the Rams into a promising future.
