With EA officially announcing a timeline for the new college football video game, sports enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly awaiting the chance to dive into gameplay for the first time in over a decade. As the release date draws nearer, I’ve decided to predict the top-rated players in each position group. In this article, we will look at the cornerbacks who will be locking down the outside.

5. Tacario Davis

Standing at 6’4, you may think Tacario Davis should be on the offensive side of the ball. According to PFF, Davis posted a 27.8% forced incompletion rate in 2023, ranking fifth among Power Five cornerbacks. In fact, in single coverage, Davis forced more incompletions than catches allowed. His giant frame allows him to be very disruptive to receivers at the catch point. He also has good hips and moves well for his size, enabling him to mirror smaller receivers.

Nov 25, 2023; Tempe, Arizona, USA; Arizona Wildcats cornerback Tacario Davis (23) returns a fumble against the Arizona State Sun Devils in the first half of the Territorial Cup at Mountain America Stadium

4. Jabbar Muhammad

Don’t let size fool you when it comes to Jabbar Muhammad as he’s one of the best cover corners in the country. In 2023, Muhammad led the nation in forced incompletions with 19 on the season. He was awarded second-team All-Pac-12 last season and looks to build off that in 2024. Muhammad has great route recognition, allowing him to anticipate plays before they happen. He also possesses excellent ball skills, consistently breaking up passes.

Dec 1, 2023; Las Vegas, NV, USA; Washington Huskies cornerback Jabbar Muhammad (1) celebrates after making a play against the Oregon Ducks during the second quarter at Allegiant Stadium.

3. Benjamin Morrison

Since the day he stepped on campus, Benjamin Morrison has been a standout for Notre Dame. In his freshman year in 2022, he led the Power Five conferences in interceptions with six. He continued his stardom in 2023, proving to be one of the best lockdown corners in the country. Morrison has quick feet, allowing him to mirror and change directions with any wide receiver. He has great instincts and can close on plays quickly.

Nov 19, 2022; South Bend, Indiana, USA; Notre Dame Fighting Irish cornerback Benjamin Morrison (20) intercepts a pass intended for Boston College Eagles wide receiver Joseph Griffin (2) in the first quarter at Notre Dame Stadium.

2. Travis Hunter

Is there anything Travis Hunter can’t do? Already cracking the top five receiver list, Hunter makes his appearance again on the defensive side of the ball at corner, which many believe to be his better position. Due to his versatility on both sides of the ball, Hunter was a consensus All-Purpose All-American in 2023. For Hunter, it’s his unreal instincts combined with elite athleticism that makes him one of the best DBs in the country.

Boulder, Colorado, USA; Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver Travis Hunter (12) is congratulated for his touchdown by head coach Deion Sanders in the first quarter against the Stanford Cardinal at Folsom Field.

1. Will Johnson

There have been few, if any, corners better than Will Johnson in the last two seasons of college football. Johnson was more than impressive in 2023, showcasing his lockdown ability against first-round picks such as Marvin Harrison Jr. and Rome Odunze. He was awarded first-team All-Big Ten and listed as an All-American by many publishers. Will Johnson has all the intangibles of a lockdown corner. He has great size, athleticism, and length, along with excellent ball skills and instincts.

Michigan defensive back Will Johnson (2) tackles Ohio State tight end Cade Stover during the first half at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Nov. 26, 2022.

Honorable mentions: Denzel Burke, Sebastian Castro, Jacobee Bryant
