Prime Time Suffers Fall From Grace as Buffaloes Lose on Late Second Field Goal to Arizona

Buffs drop to 4-6 on the season after starting 3-0; Bowl game seems out of reach

The inaugural season of the Prime Time Era in Boulder is suddenly going from a possible dream season to a definite nightmare.

After starting the season 3-0, with wins over Texas Christian, Nebraska, and Colorado State, the Buffaloes have dropped six of their next seven games, including last night’s last-second 34-31 defeat by Arizona at Folsom Field.

“We’re so close is what I told the team but yet so far,” Deion Sanders said. “We just simply, truly don’t know how to win yet and it’s not for lack of effort, not for lack of coaching with the staff and the support staff. … Everybody around is doing a phenomenal job. We just can’t get over that hump.”

“I apologize to the fanbase,” Sanders said after the game. “They’ve been supporting the heck out of us. And they’ve been showing up and showing out – another sellout crowd that ended in disappointment.”

The fans are calling Deion a fraud and could have been penalized for “piling on” after the loss. It appears that the proverbial honeymoon is over in Boulder. Fans took to social media to air their grievances.

The cult-like Deion Sanders fan club… you know the folks during the 1st few weeks of the season that-thought he’d win 9+ games and if you said anything other than that you’re a bad person, or worse: “racist”- crowd has crashed back to reality.

This coach was very prideful when they were 3 and 0. Bragging left and right. They are 1 and 6 since.https://t.co/JznoTg9Zwr

Perhaps he should also apologize to his offensive coordinator, Sean Lewis, who was wrongfully demoted. While he is at it, he should also apologize to his offensive linemen, whom he said should all be replaced as his quarterback son took a beating against UCLA.

To make matters worse, Deion’s first commit 2025, four-star Winston Watkins, decommitted from Primeville and said that his recruitment was wide open. This is the third time that Watkins has committed to a program and then reneged, so it might not be much of a loss for Colorado.

When Coach Prime was interviewed by Jon Wertheim of CBS’ 60 Minutes television program on September 17, he called himself the best college coach in the country. His Buffs were 3-0 and nationally ranked.

He might appear in AFLAC commercials with Nick Saban, but he is no Nick Saban. Win some national titles with two different programs, and then come back and talk to me.

Buffaloes faithful will say that they won four times as many games thus far as they did in 2022. That is not that hard to do when you only win one game and turn the roster as Prime did upon his arrival. Had he won four times the games with the same players,  that would have been good coaching.

Add a superstar quarterback in Shedeur Sanders and a two-way playmaker like Travis Hunter, and you should make a difference in the PAC-12 instead of being an afterthought and losing to underdeveloped teams like Stanford, where you blow a 29-0 halftime lead.

It is time for the country to open its eyes and see what these true Colorado fans see. Prime is a Brand and not a coach. He does not evaluate talent well and, according to sources, does not even coach that much in the practices. He leaves it up to his assistants.

The whole Prime shtick is getting old, and Colorado will never grow as a program with him at the helm because he is always the most important person in the room.
