This article covers six quarterbacks who have the potential to break out into stars in the 2023 season.

Spencer Rattler – South Carolina

Spencer Rattler has been overhyped every year he has been a starter in college. With the exception of this year, can he perform now that the pressure isn’t there? I think there is a good chance. South Carolina has been dominating college football news with recruiting and winning the battle within the state. With that being said, this could be Rattler’s big year. He finished the year with two big wins; in the Tennessee game, he went 30 for 37 for 438 yards and six touchdowns. On top of that, he went 25 for 39 for 360 yards against Clemson. He didn’t have a great game against Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl, but with one full year in this offense under his belt and the future looking bright in Columbia, 2023 could finally be Rattler’s year.

Joe Milton – Tennessee

Joe Milton was rushed into the starting role this past year with star quarterback Hendon Hooker getting injured in their loss to South Carolina. Since then, Milton has been on fire. He played okay against Vanderbilt, but that’s Vanderbilt. The game I really look at for Milton is the Orange Bowl vs Clemson. Milton went 19 for 28 for 251 yards as well as three touchdowns. He has the arm, we have seen many examples of that already this offseason, but will he be able to continue his run in the Orange Bowl next season?

Quinn Ewers – Texas

If Quinn Ewers can stay healthy he will be in the Heisman race. It is as simple as that. Ewers has so much talent it is insane; he even proved that against Alabama this past year before he got hurt. One full year of experience will go a long way for the young quarterback, and I expect him to have a big year for the Longhorns, maybe even finally bring Texas back.

Will Howard – Kansas State

Will Howard is already coming off an amazing 2022 year. He led Kansas State to a Big 12 championship as well as the Sugar Bowl berth that came with that. My only worry about Howard is his ability to go up against high-quality defenses. For example, he threw two interceptions against Alabama. At the same time, he is also playing in the Big 12, where they don’t play defense, so this won’t be a huge thing to worry about.

Drew Allar – Penn State

The five-star will finally get his chance in Happy Valley with Sean Clifford gone. It is hard to say how Drew Allar will do because we just haven’t seen him on the field a whole lot. The most snaps he has gotten in a game was 12 in a 45-14 win over Indiana. However, in that game, he did have 75 yards off only nine completions. He has the talent, and Penn State might finally have the guy to take them over the hump.

Casey Thompson – Nebraska

The only issue for Casey Thompson is that he has to win the starting job before he can even think about what is going to happen on the field. With Jeff Sims joining the team from Georgia Tech, this QB room is stacked. However, if he can win the job under new Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule, there is no reason he couldn’t thrive. He had the best year of his career in 2022 with 2,407 yards and 17 touchdowns; his only problem was that he also had a career-high in interceptions. Six of his ten interceptions were thrown in a three-game stretch. Without that, he could easily give Nebraska fans something to cheer about, finally.
