Deion Sanders did not have a good Friday night as his team lost 46-43 in double overtime to Stanford, at home.
Saturday night was not too much better.
Kenan Thompson did his best Coach Prime imitation on Saturday Night Live this weekend, and it created some good laughter and parody. The question remains, however, do we take this whole Coach Prime shtick seriously, or is Prime the joke that the popular comedy show makes him out to be?
Thompson portrayed the Colorado coach and was dressed in full Coach Prime regalia. He wore that hat, the hoodie, the sunglasses, and the gold bling around his neck. Thompson also alluded to the fact that Prime was a musical guest back in 1995 and showed a clip of the episode with the same gold bling, wearing a purple suit.
The sketch was so full of narcissism and “The World According to Prime” that Thompson hit on every joke and was a very realistic Coach Prime, who has never met a camera or a microphone that he did not like.
The musical number was the clincher.

Even back in the day, Prime had to be in the limelight and have the spotlight on him. It is almost like the sun rises and sets in Boulder, according to Coach Prime’s watch.
Coach Prime is coming off of a tough loss against Stanford Friday night when his team blew a 29-0 halftime lead. This mockery of him and his team could not have rested well with him. We know that Prime does not take well to anything but praise. He even blocked Mike Farrell for stories that I wrote about him on this site.
Thompson, a sketch actor for many years, made joke after joke about Coach Prime, and it made me wonder. Is that the way the rest of the world sees him, or are the SNL writers and I the only ones who do not take Coach Prime seriously?
The “Weekend Update” sketch references how Prime was called to Jackson State, a Historically Black College, and that coaching was his calling. Thompson and Colin Jost then joked that he got another call three years later and he was told to go to Colorado, a “Historically White College,” where the money is, which generated some laughter.

We all know that Prime is a Hall of Fame football player and was a tremendous athlete back in the day.
However, does the rest of the country, including those in the coaching profession, view him as a joke as SNL did? Colorado State coach Jay Norvell took on Coach Prime before their game last month. What do other coaches think about Prime Mania?
Perhaps the whole Coach Prime mantra is to attract recruits and bring money into the City of Boulder and the University of Colorado. If that is the case, then the joke is on Prime, regardless of how many millions he is getting paid to be an Ambassador and not a coach.
