Sorry, Iowa Fans: The NCAA Doesn’t Care

The blatant tampering by the Hawkeyes on Kadyn Proctor makes it so the NCAA has no choice but to reprimand them

I went in pretty hard on Iowa football for tampering with Alabama OT Kadyn Proctor, and I still think it was a clear case of portal shenanigans. But the NCAA doesn’t give a crap so I don’t either.

Jan 1, 2024; Pasadena, CA, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor (74) blocks Michigan Wolverines defensive lineman Mason Graham (55) during the first half in the 2024 Rose Bowl college football playoff semifinal game at Rose Bowl.

Florida State got a slap on the wrist for delivering a portal recruit to a booster collective so they could offer him money to leave Georgia for the Seminoles. And now Colorado and Deion Sanders have admitted to hosting an event that brought in seven different players who weren’t even in the portal yet. And they self-imposed a day out of the portal. It’s all crap, and nothing will ever be done, so why do I care?

Tampering with other players is rampant. Whether it’s communication with a family, ex-coach, or whoever, colleges are in constant contact with players who aren’t in the portal. Players thinking about entering the portal can gauge interest easily through second-hand parties that could easily be traced if the NCAA wanted to. But they don’t care. Heck, college football staffs are in direct contact with players on other rosters who aren’t in the portal, Proctor pretty much admitted to such.

Sep 2, 2023; Iowa City, Iowa, USA; Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz and running back Kamari Moulton (28) look on during a timeout during the second quarter against the Utah State Aggies Kinnick Stadium.

The NCAA could send a message to one of their less favorite, non-blue bloods, or they could just hammer a blue blood and at least scare everyone. But they won’t. And I was remiss calling out Iowa, and I’m sorry, they already got randomly hammered in a random gambling investigation out of the blue when players at LSU are placing hundreds of bets a day. So to Iowa fans, I’m sorry I forgot about that load of crap thrown on you.

Anyhow, the point of this article is to say if the NCAA doesn’t care, then why do I? I’m not an eloquent writer and honestly try to be a simple man with an opinion, so here’s my opinion — the NCAA is just going to let roster after roster get poached, and they don’t give a crap. College football as we know it is circling the drain. The end.
