Spurrier Jr. played wide receiver at Duke from ’89-’93. Upon graduation, he became a graduate assistant on his dad’s, Steve Spurrier’s, staff at Florida. He spent three seasons at Oklahoma as a wide receivers coach before joining his dad in the NFL at Washington.

In 2005, Spurrier Jr. again joined his dad’s staff, this time with the South Carolina Gamecocks. He coached various positions during his eleven years in Columbia, including co-offensive coordinator.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

After stops at Oklahoma, Western Kentucky, Washington State, and Mississippi State, he was hired as offensive coordinator at Tulsa in 2023. In 2024 he was named associate head coach.

The Gators are on an upward trajectory after an impressive 8-5 season with one of the toughest schedules. Spurrier Jr. heads back to Gainesville with extensive experience at the college level. We might see him become a head coach in the near future at some school, possibly even at Florida.
