Spurrier Jr. played wide receiver at Duke from ’89-’93. Upon graduation, he became a graduate assistant on his dad’s, Steve Spurrier’s, staff at Florida. He spent three seasons at Oklahoma as a wide receivers coach before joining his dad in the NFL at Washington.

In 2005, Spurrier Jr. again joined his dad’s staff, this time with the South Carolina Gamecocks. He coached various positions during his eleven years in Columbia, including co-offensive coordinator.
