After being arrested over the weekend on dating violence/false imprisonment charges, Florida true freshman defensive lineman Stephon Shivers has been placed on house arrest while the police department continues its investigation. Shivers, who is only 17 years old, initially had his name withheld due to being a minor, but since he made a public appearance in Alachua County Juvenile Court yesterday, his name is now attached to the felony charge.

The news of the arrest, first reported by Kevin Brockway of the Gainesville Sun, who also obtained the police report. The report alleges that the altercation began as a verbal argument which escalated into physical violence as Shivers is accused of choking the victim after he had seen the contents of the victim’s phone.

Being placed on house arrest by Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard means that Shivers will not have to wear an ankle monitor but can only leave his residence to attend school and for football practice.

Florida made an initial comment after the arrest but not since.

“We are aware of the situation with one of our student athletes. We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative process.”

Shivers, 6-foot-5 and 370-pounds, was an early enrollee at Florida and participated during spring practice. He attended high school at Brentwood Academy at Tennessee, where he was upwards of 25 offers. He initially committed to Georgia before reopening his process and eventually signing with the Gators.
