The Heisman Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. The award started in 1935, with Chicago Senior RB Jay Berwanger receiving the Downtown Athletic Club Trophy that would later be named the Heisman Trophy after the club’s president. Alabama QB Bryce Young became the most recent winner of this award.

Caleb Williams had his worst game in a Trojan uniform Saturday. USC barely escaped Corvallis with a 17-14 victory against Oregon State. Travis Dye took over, running for 133 yards on 19 carries. While Williams wasn’t horrible, he struggled with accuracy and finding the open receivers. I debated replacing Williams with Michael Penix Jr this week; however, Williams played solid against a tough Beavers defense and threw the game-winning touchdown. Williams will need a solid bounce-back week to stay in the top three.

Bryce Young dominated Vanderbilt on Saturday. The junior signal caller accounted for four touchdowns in a 55-3 blowout win. Young secured his #2 spot for a second straight week and will have his toughest test in week five as he travels to Fayetteville to take on Arkansas.

CJ Stroud is the Heisman favorite. Wisconsin is known for its solid defense, and Stroud ripped them apart. If the Buckeye QB wasn’t the favorite, he sure is now. Stroud will face the Scarlet Knights this weekend in what should be another Heisman performance from the Junior.

Conclusion
Michael Penix Jr. barely missed the top three this week. Next week the Washington QB will face UCLA in an undefeated showdown of PAC 12 teams. He will have a prime opportunity to move up then.
The top three didn’t change this week. CJ Stroud, to me, is the current Heisman lock. He is dominating his competition behind a playoff-bound Ohio State team.
JJ McCarthy was replaced as a candidate because there are better players than him so far this season. He doesn’t have the statistics yet to make this list, meaning I was early on him. I still expect him to crack the top ten this season, but he needs to prove himself.
