The best thing for college football? Deion Sanders. But some think he’s the worst thing as well. Here’s your dose of Daily Deion.

Disclaimer: I have always been a fan of Deion Sanders. Loved him as a player at FSU, in Atlanta and Dallas and even respected him as a 49er against my Cowboys.

The hits keep coming from anonymous PAC-12 coaches. The latest? Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, the son of Deion, is padding his stats by taking sacks to avoid lowering his completion percentage by throwing the ball away. And it’s absolute garbage.

The stats are alarming as Sanders has been sacked 25 times for a loss of 221 yards in five games. That’s a lot. But let’s also remember he’s played two Top 10 football teams for a team that can’t run the ball and has a horrible offensive line. And other opponents TCU, Nebraska, and Colorado State aren’t terrible up front on defense either. Sanders has been under extreme duress since the first drive of the season and the sacks are bound to come.

What I have noticed is that he does hold the ball too long. But why is that? He’s still adjusting to the speed of Power Five football and getting his feet underneath him as he reads defenses and feels the rush. Some quarterbacks stand in the pocket too long and hold the ball, it happens. It makes Sanders a work in progress as a QB and not even close to the first-rounder some proclaim he is. But padding his stats? That’s just beyond ridiculous.

Shedeur is a lot of things. He’s confident, talented, poised, tough, loud and arrogant. But he’s not anywhere near what this “anonymous” PAC 12 coach says he is. If this coach even exists.
