Everyone loves lists. The best this, the strongest that. Let’s apply that randomly to college football shall we?

Top five current recruiting juggernauts.

1. Georgia

2. Alabama

3. Ohio State

4. LSU

5. Clemson

Breakdown:

The UGA offer has officially replaced the Alabama offer as the one recruits covet the most, and that’s telling. Alabama isn’t going away anytime soon and the Buckeyes continue to run the north. LSU has the biggest home-state advantage in all of recruiting and continues to roll even with Brian Kelly’s “average” recruiting reputation. Clemson is just as steady as anyone with fewer offers and fewer decommitments than anyone.

Leading Heisman candidates

1. Caleb Williams, USC

2. Drake Maye, UNC

3. Bo Nix, Oregon

4. Michael Penix Jr., Washington

5. Jordan Travis, FSU

Breakdown:

Williams is obviously the favorite, and Drake Maye might be hindered by his team’s potential average record. Nix and Penix Jr. will put up big numbers, but the biggest threat could be Travis if FSU has a monster season.

Dec 10, 2022; New York, NY, USA; Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams poses for photos during a press conference in the Astor Ballroom at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York, NY, after winning the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

Best transfer portal QB commitments.

1. Hudson Card, Purdue

2. Sam Hartman, Notre Dame

3. Devin Leary, Kentucky

4. Collin Schlee, UCLA

5. Walker Howard, Ole Miss

Breakdown:

I’m probably the only one who has Card this high, but I love his upside and what he can do in the new Purdue system. Hartman is an excellent fit for the Notre Dame offense with his accuracy and ability to throw players open, and if Leary stays healthy, he’ll have a great year under Liam Coen. The last two might not even start but are good down-the-line options, and no, I don’t have Shedeur Sanders on my list.

Purdue Boilermakers quarterback Hudson Card (1) throws the ball during spring football practice, Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Mollenkopf Athletic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
