There will always be debates about who the best teams of all time are, often influenced by personal perspective and age. However, certain teams undeniably stand out. In this article, we revisit the most dominant college football teams since the turn of the century. If you missed part one, ‘The Most Dominant College Football Teams Since 2000,’ be sure to check it out for a detailed look at football dominance over the past decades.

1. 2018 Clemson Tigers

The first team to go 15-0 in the modern era was the 2018 Clemson Tigers. They were absolutely dominant, on their
way to a second national title in three years. Led by true freshman
QB Trevor Lawrence, they averaged a staggering 44.2 points per
game. The defense was just as dominant giving up only 13.3 points
per game, while beating their opponents by an average of 31.3
points per game. They ended up with three of the first 20 picks
in the 2019 draft.

2. 2019 LSU Tigers

Other than the 2001 Miami Hurricanes, I have not seen a team more dominant in my 30 years of living. Let me give you the rundown of the hardware they brought home: Joe Burrow won the Heisman with a historic year, Ja’Marr Chase took home the Biletnikoff as the best receiver, the offensive line won the Joe Moore Award as the nation’s best, Grant Delpit earned the Jim Thorpe Award as the best defensive back, and Ed Orgeron received several national Coach of the Year honors. They also averaged a mind-blowing 48.4 points per game while beating their opponents by 26.5 points per game. Simply put, they earned legendary status.

3. 2020 Alabama Crimson Tide

While COVID took an unfortunate toll on the entire world, football still
had to be played. It was not a normal season by any means, with many teams not playing at all. Still, it was an exciting season for all who tuned in.
With that being said, the Crimson Tide reclaimed their spot at
the top of the throne. Led by Heisman winner DeVonta Smith at
receiver and quarterback Mac Jones, they averaged a whopping 48.5
points per game. They ended up with six All-Americans and three Heisman finalists, which is unheard of.

4. 2022 Georgia Bulldogs

While Jalen Carter and Brock Bowers were the main stars, this
entire team was loaded with talent across the board. Almost the
entire starting 22, offensively and defensively, went on to the NFL in some capacity. They ended up in the SEC championship game against LSU, where they had no trouble. They blew the doors off with a 50-30 victory. As only the third team to ever go 15-0 in a season, they cemented their legacy in the
national championship game against TCU with a 65-7 drubbing to
earn their second national title in as many years.

5. 2023 Michigan Wolverines

Rounding out the list is our latest national champion, the Michigan Wolverines. This past season, they became only the fourth team in history to finish the year with a 15-0 record. While there have been high-flying offenses led by Heisman winners, this team was a bit different. Although they had offensive weapons like Blake Corum who made timely plays, the defense was the heart of the team. They became the first FBS team since Minnesota in 1903 to hold 15 different opponents under 25 points in a season and the first team since the 2001 Hurricanes to hold the lead at halftime in every game. They finished by allowing a minuscule 10.4 points per game and had 13 players selected in the draft, a program record.
