We’re back with another installment of the “Three & Out” series where I talk about three hot topics that are going on in college football. There has been plenty of news lately, but here are the few that I want to touch on briefly. Let’s begin.

Week 0 Preview

No. 22 Iowa State vs. No. 17 Kansas State

The first game of the college football season starts off with two conference foes from the Big 12 playing in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland. Iowa State is coming off of an 11-win season while Kansas State finished with nine. Both teams are very hopeful of the same with key players returning, but I see Kansas State pulling this one out led by QB Avery Johnson an company.

Stanford at Hawaii

Stanford and the word ACC should never be in the same sentence, but here we are. With all of the conference realignment going on teams are misplaced all over. Anyhow, they face Hawaii on the road in which it should be a very intriguing game. Both teams seem to be in a rebuild, so whoever comes out on top will be a surprise.

Fresno State at Kansas

Kansas hopes to unveil its new renovations to their stadium with a win against Fresno State coming to town. Star QB Jalon Daniels looks to have a bounce back season as well as the Jayhawks, while Fresno State looks to take a step forward. I have Kansas coming out with the dub on this one.

Joey Aguilar Picked to Lead Vols

Former Appalachian State Star QB and very brief UCLA transferee Joey Aguilar was named the starter for the No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers on Aug. 18. With former Tennessee signal caller Nico Iamaleava transferring back home to UCLA, he chose to swap and come to Knoxville, Tenn.

A couple of years back in his first season at Appalachian State he put on a show throwing for 3,757 yards along with 33 touchdowns. There was a minimal drop off his second season, but his team nor personnel wasn’t the same either.

With the weapons he has at Tennessee along with the coaching and development, I see him having the type of season he had a couple of years back. As long as he plays within the offense, Tennessee fans will be very pleased.

WR Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State

Coming off of a national championship, No. 3 Ohio State looks to do the same again this season. Having superstar WR Jeremiah Smith back will certainly help with that. While they are breaking in a new quarterback, it won’t matter much—he is that good. He finished last season with 76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns.

OT Spencer Fano, Utah

Spencer Fano has been a mainstay in the starting lineup ever since he stepped foot on campus a couple years back. It will be more of the same this year, as he has done nothing but improve. He was already NFL caliber then, but after this season I don’t see him staying in college any longer. His draft stock will be too high.

CB Jermod McCoy, Tennessee

Transferring in from Oregon State a year ago there were high expectations on Jermod McCoy, but I don’t think the nation knew he would break out as much as he did. McCoy turned out to be one of the best corners in the nation. He got hurt during the offseason, but whenever he gets cleared he will be lockdown once again.
