An arrest for shoplifting is never good, but it gets much worse when the arrested party is a police officer. That is the situation for Christopher Pazan, a former Illinois quarterback.

The story by Tom Schuba of the Chicago Sun Times, claims that Pazan was allegedly caught on video stealing $300 worth of baseball cards from a Meijer superstore. He was taken into custody on Wednesday.

A Chicago police officer since 2015, Pazan was relieved of his duties after the arrest. He faces a misdemeanor count of retail theft and has a Court hearing scheduled on June 23rd.

According to the story, Pazan has faced numerous financial hurdles over the last few years, including an ongoing divorce.

“He’s in the midst of a divorce and was scheduled to appear at a hearing on Wednesday. His initial attorney in the case, Tania K. Harvey, has asked the court to force Pazan to pay $5,876.84 she says her firm is owed.”

With the Illini, Pazan played in 15 games between 2003 and 2005. During this time, he passed for 985 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions, while completing 57% of his passes.
