While you likely wouldn’t expect Ryan Day, Kirby Smart, Dabo Swinney or James Franklin to be moonlighting in the off-season with a second job, that isn’t the case for every head coach. Recently, Florida A&M head coach James Colzie III was shown doing his second job on the SEC Network.

Coach Colzie is a softball umpire, and not just in a recreational league. He umpires in the SEC, which is where he was found on television working the Auburn/Mississippi State game. While he is more known on the gridiron, Coach Colzie is no stranger on the diamond, as he played both football and baseball during his collegiate career at Florida State from 1993 to 1996.
Off the diamond, Coach Colzie is preparing for his second season in charge of Florida A&M, after leading the Rattlers to a 7-5 record in 2024. Prior to his time at Florida A&M, he had coached at Florida International, at the DII level (Valdosta State, Southern Arkansas, West Georgia), at the JUCO level (Coffeyville) and even in Canada (Simon Fraser, University of British Columbia, St. Mary’s).
