As expected, the winter transfer portal window was extremely busy with players coming and going. Most additions were announced by their new schools, but one that has been noticeably missing is wide receiver Tru Edwards (Louisiana Tech), who committed to Kentucky back on January 13th. Yesterday it was announced why he still isn’t on the Wildcats’ official roster:
Stoops on Tru Edwards who is not here yet: "Some guys are working through what gets approved by the NCAA and what does not."

This comment by Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops clears a few things up but not everything. Edwards’ situation was created due to Diego Pavia’s lawsuit, which cleared the way for him and other former JUCO players to receive another year of eligibility. Edwards fits this mold as he began his collegiate career at a JUCO before signing with Hawaii and then transferring to Louisiana Tech. But there hasn’t been a ruling that encompasses all former JUCO players, so each situation is investigated individually which seems to be the issue with Edwards.

Now Kentucky and Edwards, who enjoyed a breakout season in 2024 season at Louisiana Tech with 84 receptions for 986 yards and six touchdowns, are in a wait-and-see position. And while they wait-and-see, Edwards is missing winter workouts and likely spring practice.

In all likelihood this will be resolved and Edwards will join the Wildcats, but the NCAA’s time table to resolve issues like this is never consistent.
