Colin Cowherd has always been known for his crazy takes and mind-numbing opinions. But when he makes a blatant mistake on radio or television, it tends to get even more publicity. That again happened last night when he incorrectly stated the conference affiliation of several college football programs:
"I like an independent. BYU is an independent. You have service academies. You have Notre Dame."https://t.co/QzfyRgfUz4

While this isn’t nearly as bad as his most horrible mistake, when he included the deceased Dwayne Haskins in a list of quarterbacks that can’t win the Super Bowl, it is another example of his lack of awareness. Lets take a quick look at each of the schools he mentioned and their current “independent” status:
Notre Dame: Yes, they are still famously an Independent
BYU: While they were an Independent from 2011 to 2022, they have been a member of the Big 12 the last two seasons. The Big 12 is a Power 4 conference.

Army: 2024 was Army’s first season in the AAC, after being Independent from 2005 to 2023.
Navy: The Midshipmen have been a member of the AAC since 2015
Air Force: The Falcons have been a member of the Mountain West Conference since 1999 and before that were a member of the WAC since 1980. My guess is that Cowherd doesn’t even consider Air Force a service academy, which is an entirely different issue
So, in one statement he technically made four mistakes, which is a different level of embarrassment for the on-air personality. And that is all that he should be considered. He is not an expert in anything and should be only a source of entertainment, as long as you think blatant mistruths are entertaining.
