Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has not been bashful on social media in recent weeks with his displeasure of the selection process for the playoffs. While some of the game results made his argument difficult to defend, including Georgia’s loss to Notre Dame hours before his comments, he double downed on his opinions last night after the Rebels beat Duke in the Gator Bowl.
Aside from thinking that Ole Miss and Alabama should’ve been included in the playoffs, Kiffin has continually stressed how much better the SEC is than every other conference. His comments last night might have been the most definitive yet:

Kiffin made numerous comments that will ruffle feathers, which is nothing new. Some that are noteworthy:
“You might as well be in different league, not conferences, different league. Here is the NFL, here is the SEC, here are the few Big Ten teams and here is everyone else.”

Kiffin has aimed most of his previous shots at the ACC and Big 12, but here he also took a shot at most of the Big Ten.
“We have the week when the three (SEC) favorites all lose on senior day/night in three of the hardest stadiums in America to play. Its much different than where these other conferences go and play”
Kiffin is referring to the SEC debacle that happened on November 23rd when #9 Ole Miss lost at Florida, #15 Texas A&M lost at Auburn and #7 Alabama lost at Oklahoma. These results ultimately killed the playoff chances of these three teams. I guess there is no reason to bring up that Florida lost a home game to Miami by 24 and Auburn lost at home to Cal by 7. Miami and Cal are in the ACC, but once again, no reason to bring that up.
“You have to get up for it every week. It’s a lot easier when you only have to get up for two games a year.”
Aside from the loss at Florida, the Rebels’ other two losses came at LSU in overtime and against 4-8 Kentucky at home. I guess getting up to beat a Wildcats team that finished with one victory in the SEC is more difficult than everyone outside of the SEC can imagine.
Kiffin obviously won’t stop with this narrative. This is what he does and while I enjoy how open he is on social media, in situations like this it just seems a bit over the top. Bashing other conferences and schedules is hollow when you can’t coach your team to a home victory against Kentucky.
But I’ll be here to see what he says next.
