If you watch enough sports you know that an announcer jinx is something that people believe in. Last night during the final minutes of the Orange Bowl, ESPN announcer Greg McElroy took it to an extreme level with a long explanation of what Penn State should do. It was quickly proven incorrect:
"I'm aggressive… For the most part, all season long, his whole career, Drew Allar has made good decisions. He's got 50+ touchdowns, only 9 career interceptions. It's not likely a guy that's gonna put the ball in harm's way. I trust him… I would empower him…" – Greg McElroy pic.twitter.com/s9Uet8wnJW

To his credit, despite an overall poor game, Penn State quarterback Drew Allar had only thrown seven interceptions this season and nine during his collegiate career. His statement was reasonable. However, his statement a few minutes later was more confusing

The biggest problem with McElroy’s statement here is that there were only 29 seconds remaining in the game and Notre Dame was at the 35-yard line. It wasn’t a guarantee that the Irish would score at all in this situation, yet McElroy chose this time to beg the Irish not too score too quickly.
It wasn’t a few minutes that McElroy should add to his resume.
