The spring transfer portal window will be coming soon and coaches don’t want to show the talent they
have on the field. Nebraska, USC, and now Texas have all canceled their spring game. Tampering is a
real thing in college football. Third parties are contacting players to let them know their NIL value if they
enter the transfer portal and come to their school. Coaches want to protect their rosters.

Many colleges will be transitioning to more of the NFL model with Organized Team Activities (OTAs).
Instead of a few weeks of practice followed by a game at the end, we will likely see multiple smaller
practice sections throughout the spring semester.

Sep 28, 2024; Austin, Texas, USA; Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian leaves the field after the 35-13 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Sarkisian had already suggested that they would cancel the game because of the extended run in the
college football playoffs. “[Texas Longhorns] coach Steve Sarkisian, concerned about player wear-and-
tear after a 16-game season in 2024, is considering a revamped spring football schedule that could
include no spring game, sources tell @Horns247,” Chip Brown said via X.

Spring games are one of the special things in college sports. Fans get a chance to get a taste of football
in the middle of the off-season. At some schools that sell out all their games, this is the only chance for
some fans to go to a game. Hopefully, the teams canceling the games will have some sort of “fanfest” to
keep the fans excited about the coming season.
