Week one reaction — five teams, it appears, I vastly overrated.
1. Clemson
— The playoff window for Dabo Swinney seems to have slammed shut, as this is a mistake-prone team with average QB play and a talented roster that just doesn’t appear to play together. Duke is a good program, but this was an embarrassing loss for a former juggernaut program.
2. LSU
— I expected FSU to win and had them ranked ahead of the Tigers, but this was a poorly coached LSU team that got manhandled. LSU could be in trouble if some adjustments aren’t made.
3. TCU
— The loss to Colorado was embarrassing, but time will tell how good the Buffs are. But being a three-touchdown favorite at home and losing outright can’t be silverlined. I had them as a Top 25 team, and they aren’t close to that.

4. Texas Tech
— I like Joey McGuire, and I think he’s the right fit at Texas Tech, but I thought winning close games last season was going to pay off this year, and it didn’t help in the opening loss to Wyoming.
5. South Carolina
— The offensive line was dismal, and they were shut down by what appears to be a below-average UNC defense. Time will tell if this is a poor offensive team, but so far, it looks like one.
