As we approach the final weeks of the regular season, the race for the Heisman Trophy is heating up. While quarterbacks are typically the focal point of conversation, this year is different. Talented players from different positions are representing their schools proudly. Here are my top five candidates vying for this prestigious honor.
Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
In the world of sports, some individuals emerge as generational talents, and I believe Jeanty is one of them. His blend of power and speed is simply undeniable. He’s a key reason why the running back position is regaining its value. Jeanty is an every-down back who can create on the ground, excel as a receiver, and provide solid pass protection when called upon.
Jeanty is coming off a huge 34 carry, 209 yard, three touchdown game in Boise State’s 28-21 win over Nevada.
Key stats:
- Rushing yards: 1,734
- Touchdowns: 23
- Yards per carry: 7.7

Travis Hunter, ATH, Colorado
Hunter is another generational talent who consistently delivers. He’s a true wizard on the field. Playing both ways in college is almost unheard of, given the toll it takes on the body, but Hunter’s conditioning is exceptional. He never shows signs of fatigue, even if he’s feeling it. His impact on the team is undeniable—Hunter is a critical part of Colorado’s game plan on both offense and defense. A true iron man, he’s a key contributor on both sides of the ball.
Key stats
- Receptions: 69
- Receiving yards: 856
- Touchdowns: 9
- Interceptions: 2

Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oregon
Mr. Consistent strikes again! The Oregon offense has flourished under Gabriel’s leadership. His accuracy, poise, and creativity set him apart from the rest. When combined with a dominant ground game, the offense becomes more dangerous than ever. Your all-time FBS passing touchdown leader is here to finish business.
Key stats:
- Passing yards: 2,848
- Touchdowns: 22
- Completion percentage: 74.1 %

Cam Ward, QB, Miami
Is Ward the missing piece to the puzzle for the Hurricanes? It’s the question we’ve all asked. I’d say yes—and then some. His improvisation is outstanding, and he plays with a chip on his shoulder. Most impressive is his ability to control the pace; he doesn’t let the opposing defense rush him. This is the kind of player you’d want to go to battle with. Ward has put Miami back in the national spotlight.
While he came up short against a feisty Georgia Tech team with a late fumble, Ward still threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns in the contest.
Key stats:
- Passing yards: 3,494
- Touchdowns: 32
- QBR: 89.6 (1st in the country)

Dylan Sampson, RB, Tennessee
Sampson is the answer to Volunteer fans’ prayers. He’s a true workhorse, and that’s meant in the best way. While many modern backs shy away from contact, Sampson will run right through you. He’s extremely physical, with excellent vision and the top-end speed to take it to the house. His efforts, along with the offensive line, have been what Tennessee has needed on offense.
Key stats:
- Rushing yards: 1,129
- Touchdowns: 20
- Yards per carry: 5.6

Final remarks:
The Heisman Trophy is awarded to the player who has the most outstanding season while adding significant value to their team. These are the chosen few. Whoever takes home the trophy truly deserves it and will forever be a part of Heisman history.
