As Week 4 approaches, several standout players are primed to make a big impact. Miller Moss, Cam Skattebo, and Caden Veltkamp have all been putting up impressive numbers and are set for key matchups. Here’s why you should keep an eye on them this weekend.
Moss Faces Biggest Test Yet Against Michigan’s Fierce Defense

Miller Moss is off to a fantastic start in 2024, completing 72.7% of his passes for 607 yards and two touchdowns over two games. However, his biggest challenge yet awaits as USC heads into the hostile Big House to face Michigan’s elite defense. Michigan loves to bring pressure, so USC’s ability to protect Moss will be crucial. But with Lincoln Riley‘s creative play-calling, Moss could find success through quick throws and utilizing his playmakers in space. I’m sure Riley has studied Texas’ win in Ann Arbor and will use that blueprint to help Moss and the Trojans succeed.
Skattebo Set for Breakout Against Struggling Texas Tech Defense

Cam Skattebo, once a transfer from Sacramento State, is averaging an impressive 5.5 yards per carry with three touchdowns and 373 rushing yards in just three games this season. This weekend, he faces the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who are ranked 107th in rushing defense, giving up 180 yards per game, nine rushing TDs, and 4.74 yards per rush.
While playing in Lubbock is never easy, Skattebo and the Sun Devils just pulled off a win on the road against Texas State, despite Skattebo being relatively contained by a top-25 rushing defense. He still found the endzone twice, and I think this weekend provides a great opportunity for him to break loose against a weaker Red Raiders defense.

Veltkamp Ready for Showdown Against Unbeaten Toledo After Stellar Performance

Last week, Caden Veltkamp stepped in for TJ Finley during the “100 Miles of Hate” rivalry against Middle Tennessee and put on a show, completing 27 of 30 passes for 398 yards and five TDs, while also adding a rushing touchdown. This earned him a spot on the Manning Award “Stars of the Week.”
Interestingly, his five-touchdown performance mirrored his breakout game in the 2023 Famous Toastery Bowl, where he led WKU to a dramatic 38-35 OT win over Old Dominion after coming back from a 28-0 deficit. Now, Veltkamp is set to start against a tough 3-0 Toledo team, facing a defense that’s only allowed 739 passing yards this season. This will be a true test for Veltkamp, but based on what we’ve seen so far, he’s ready for the challenge.
