Alijah Huzzie Leads Top Practice Performers from East/West Shrine Bowl

Players take advantage of post-season showcase to impact their status heading into the draft

We are now in draft season, which means prospects from all over the country are participating in draft prep along with all-star games. This is the
time to raise their stock with interviews along with their play. On the other hand, some may unfortunately have their stocks drop.
Here, though, I will name my top players who have shined
throughout the week of practice from the Shrine Bowl.

1. Colorado Wideouts

The wide receiver group for the Buffaloes was so good
throughout the season that basically the whole corps went except
for the Heisman trophy winner Travis Hunter, for obvious reasons. The likes of Will Sheppard, LaJohntay Wester, and
Jimmy Horn Jr. have all made plays of some sort this week.
Sheppard has impressed with his size along with contested catches,
while Wester and Horn have put their speed and route running on
display. Cameron Silmon-Craig and Shilo Sanders have been very solid as well. Every one of them will be a steal in my eyes wherever they
go.

2. CB Alijah Huzzie, North Carolina

Versatility is the word when it comes to Alijah Huzzie. Not
only can he play both the boundary outside and nickel inside at
corner, but he is also dangerous returning punts. He may be better at
nickel, though, with the way he can tackle and handle the
quickness of the slot receivers. He has shown his
great instincts on the ball while having exceptional hip fluidity to stick the receiver this week.

3. DT Jordan Phillips, Maryland

While not having much production in pass rush, he
certainly makes up for it in the run game. Jordan Phillips is a
prototypical run and gap stuffer. Standing at 6-3, 320 lbs. you
wouldn’t think it, but he has tremendous quickness down the line for
someone his size. His strength/quickness combination has been on display throughout the week and scouts
have certainly noticed.

4. OL Thomas Perry, Middlebury

Coming from a D3 program not much is expected from
you. The talent isn’t all that great with almost no way to be seen by
the regular public other than on film. With that being said, it
doesn’t matter one bit to Thomas Perry. All week he has gotten
better and better to the point where scouts have had no choice but to
take notice. He can play inside at either center or guard. With his
outstanding mental and physical strength, he leverages his way to wins
against his matchups. I think his stock has risen quite a bit this
week.

5. OT Hollin Pierce, Rutgers

Hollin Pierce just may be the largest prospect at the entire Shrine Bowl this week. Standing at a massive 6-8, 340 lbs.,
it’s a challenge for an opponent to even see in the backfield
when they play against him. He has great feet and technique to go
along with his size, which you don’t find too often. This week he has
been dominant at times in my eyes, but could stand a little more
consistency. His stock is definitely on the rise.
