The NFL scouting combine was anything but dull on Friday as the day was filled with news and notes from players all across the country.

The morning started with reports that Alabama All-American cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry will miss his workout in Indianapolis due to a Jones Fracture in his ankle determined during medical testing. He will be fine to work out at Alabama’s pro day, will have surgery afterwards and should be fine for the start of training camp.

Ohio State All-American wide receiver, Marvin Harrison, Jr., widely regarded as the best receiver in the draft and a top five pick, missed his press conference as it was later revealed that he was having a body scan. Harrison did announce through sources that he was not going to workout at the combine, nor was he going to address the media.

One reporter, Alain Poupart of SI.com, quipped, “Marvin Harrison finally found a way to beat press coverage.” That brought a chuckle in the press room.

Michael Penix Jr. was “a star in interviews” according to Peter Schreger of the NFL Network. During Penix’s presser he said that his meeting with Denver went very well, except they asked him question after question about bad throws that he made during his career.

J.J. McCarthy announced that he will participate in the throwing drills on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, but he will not run or perform any agility drills due to a hamstring issue that has been bothering him since the National Championship game.

SEC vs. Big Ten: Is Indiana Adopting the SEC’s Scheduling Model?

Oct 7, 2023; Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA; Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy (9) dives for a touchdown against the Minnesota Golden Gophers during the second quarter at Huntington Bank Stadium.

Caleb Williams also told NFL sources that he would not sign a medical waiver to release his medical records to the 32 NFL clubs. It is speculated according to league sources that this is the first time in combine history that someone refused to sign the waiver.

Speaking of Williams, he came across as very cocky and arrogant during his 15 minutes.

He said that he definitely deserved to be the first pick of the NFL Draft and that it was “exciting to go into a situation like that.”

What happens if he is not drafted by the Bears with the first pick and instead goes to Washington with the second pick, which is a possibility? Will he still be as excited?

Williams also said that he wants to go to a place that wants to win from the “top down to the janitors”. Nice knock on the janitorial staff. He said he asked the Bears during his interview how badly they wanted to win.

Nov 4, 2023; Los Angeles, California, USA; USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams (13) runs towards the bench after a touchdown is scored during the first quarter against the Washington Huskies at United Airlines Field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

I think the Bears don’t need all the drama. They should trade the pick, get their capital and let some other deal with the headache known as Caleb Williams.
