In today’s Fact or Fiction — NFL Draft edition — I look at three big recent topics around the NFL Draft and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Jalen Carter is slipping out of round one.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
With his legal issues behind him but still a red flag, Carter’s pro day was a disaster and leads to questions about his dedication to his craft and work ethic. When you are winded finishing drills and gained 10 pounds in a couple of weeks after the combine, it’s hard to justify a top 5 pick for NFL teams despite his film. But now there is talk of a slip out of round one? That won’t happen, as I don’t think he will get past Detroit’s second pick at No. 18.

2. The Panthers will take Bryce Young.
Farrell’s take: FACT
First, it was rumored to be CJ Stroud they traded up for, and now it’s Bryce Young. This could change a few times but trust me when I say this. Young is more and more separating himself from the pack in the Panthers’ war room as he keeps coming up as the QB who will be very good no matter what barring injury. There is a feeling that Stroud, as good as he is, benefitted from those Ohio State WRs too much, and people are looking at first rounders like Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones, who also did the same thing. Young didn’t have the elite WR talent of these others and was still exceptional.

3. The Bears will take Bijan Robinson at No. 9.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
Khalil Herbert is nice and all, and D’Onta Foreman is a solid addition but this team lacks an elite back and that’s clear. And losing David Montgomery to the Lions can’t feel good. But to take one in the top 10? Even one as good as Robinson? No chance. The need is an offensive lineman, and if Northwestern OL Peter Skoronski from Park Ridge, IL is available, he’s the pick. And if they don’t go OL, they will take a value pick along the DL. The trenches need to be addressed much more than a Saquon Barkley type of RB.
