Draft Fact or Fiction: Jalen Carter Still Top 10, Bryce Young’s Weight, Jalin Hyatt’s 40

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction — Draft Edition, he determines whether Jalen Carter still gets picked…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — NFL Draft edition — I look at three big recent topics around the NFL Draft and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Jalen Carter drops out of the Top 10.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Carter has some explaining to do in regard to the misdemeanor charges he’s facing for a drag racing incident after UGA’s national title win that led to the death of two people. Sounds serious, right? It is. But without more information, it’s too hard to project what drop, if any, this will lead to for the top DT in the NFL Draft. He’s a top-three talent, without question. And talent supersedes a lot in the NFL, so unless we are talking potential jail time, I don’t think he freefalls.

Nov 5, 2022; Athens, Georgia, USA; Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker (5) fumbles the ball in the end zone after being hit by Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Jalen Carter (88) during the first quarter at Sanford Stadium.

2. Bryce Young weighs in at 195 or more.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

First off, I don’t care. Young is a special talent and easily the QB1 in this draft. So he can weigh 185, and I won’t care. But 195 seems to be the number people want, and I’m expecting closer to 188-190. He’s bulking up a bit, and he has an okay frame but he’s also not stupid. He’s not going to add weight and impact his mechanics or natural abilities just to impress scouts who think he needs to be thicker.

Oct 15, 2022; Knoxville, Tennessee, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young (9) looks to pass the ball against the Tennessee Volunteers during the first quarter at Neyland Stadium.

3. Jalin Hyatt runs a sub 4.3 40-yard dash.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I have Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez as my pick to bust off a 4.28 40-yard dash but I don’t think the Vols receiver will do it. And again, it doesn’t matter. Hyatt will earn a first-round grade with a 4.33 or so and be one of the top three wide receivers in terms of speed.

Oct 15, 2022; Knoxville, Tennessee, USA; Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Jalin Hyatt (11) runs for a touchdown against the Alabama Crimson Tide during the second half at Neyland Stadium.
