Draft Fact or Fiction: QBs at the Combine, Jets Targeting OL, Atlanta’s Conundrum

Should the top quarterbacks be throwing at the NFL Combine? Will the Jets opt for an offensive lineman with the tenth pick? And who do the Falcons target at 8?

In today’s Fact or Fiction — NFL Draft edition — I look at three big recent topics around the NFL Draft and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. The top QBs should throw at the combine.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Why? People point to Anthony Richardson last year and how he helped himself but there really aren’t a lot of throwing question marks with Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels. For Williams, it’s attitude; for Maye it’s decision-making; and for Daniels, it’s durability, so throwing won’t answer any of those questions. They will be fine having their scripted pro days and could only hurt themselves with Combine throwing.

Sep 10, 2022; Atlanta, Georgia, USA; North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Drake Maye (10) drops back to pass against the Georgia State Panthers in the first half at Center Parc Stadium.

2. The Jets should go OL at No. 10.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Aaron Rodgers is old. The Jets offensive line has been terrible. Add it up, and you need to protect the man, not add weapons like TE Brock Bowers, as many would like. Take Olu Fashanu, JC Latham, or Taliese Fuaga, and get Rodgers some protection for his last couple of seasons.

Jan 7, 2024; Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA; New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh watches from the sideline as they take on the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

3. Atlanta could go Edge at No. 8.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Justin Fields will be a Falcon, it seems, so they can now address their other massive issue — the pass rush. They haven’t had a 10-sack dude since Vic Beasley, and Dallas Turner or Jared Verse will be there at No. 8. The defense needs help.

Dec 2, 2023; Charlotte, NC, USA; Florida State Seminoles defensive lineman Jared Verse (5) reacts during the fourth quarter against the Louisville Cardinals at Bank of America Stadium.
