4. Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, CB, Cincinnati
We all knew that the Jets would likely target a corner with this pick. Sauce Gardner was the top cornerback on my board and is a great scheme fit with the combination of defensive schemes that the Jets would like to run. Sauce was a lockdown corner at Cincinnati who gave up zero red-zone touchdowns in his college career. This pick was a no-brainer taking the best available corner. Sauce is an excellent player with some serious swagger on and off the field. Great pick here by the Jets.
Grade: A
10. Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State
My 3rd overall receiver, Wilson isn’t elite at any one thing but is consistently good at everything. I’ve heard the name Stefon Diggs thrown around a lot in comparison. I don’t think I’d go that far, but there are some similarities in their games. Even if he’s just a discount version of Stefon Diggs early on, that’d mean he’s the best receiver the Jets have had in decades. If he can do anything on offense, he’s already a big improvement. Since he went to the Jets it is likely he will underperform expectations, at least until he’s on another team, but that to no fault of his own. High upside pick, with how strong of a draft the Jets had, maybe he’ll be one of the players to finally turn that dumpster fire of an organization around.
Grade: B+
26. Jermaine Johnson II, DE, Florida State
Many insiders said that depending on how the draft started, the Jets seriously considered taking Johnson with picks 4 or 10. Trading up and getting him here at 26 is great value for a player that experts believe is a surefire starter from the jump. Johnson significantly raises the floor of the Jets’ defense on day 1, easily one of the biggest steals of the draft.
