The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft saw one of the most hyped names in college football go undrafted. Shedeur Sanders will have to wait until Day Two to see if he gets selected.
Unsurprisingly, no NFL team took a chance on him on Thursday. Is he a good player? Yes. Would we discuss him as much if his last name weren’t Sanders? No.

Sanders holds the all-time FBS record for career completion percentage at 71.8%, according to ESPN. He also set a single-season completion percentage record for Colorado at 74.0%. Despite these achievements, he was not valued as a first-round pick when all factors were considered.
He does come off as arrogant and entitled at times. Following a standout but not dominant two years in Boulder, Sanders vanished after the season. He did not participate in the East-West Shrine Bowl, did not work out at the NFL Scouting Combine, and only attended one mandatory press conference in Indianapolis. He did perform at his Colorado Pro Day.

Sanders is a first round talent, I’m sure of it. Whatever you want to call it — arrogance, cockiness, entitlement — is what led to his fall from round one.

Some NFL executives and coaches have expressed negative opinions about Shedeur Sanders, particularly regarding his interview behavior and perceived lack of professionalism. Often made anonymously, these comments have fueled a debate about Sanders’ character and draft-day prospects.
Some NFL personnel reportedly felt that Sanders appeared unprofessional during interviews at the Combine, indicating a lack of seriousness and disinterest. One anonymous assistant coach went as far as to call his interview the “worst formal interview I’ve ever been in.”
Shedeur, the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, son of Hall of Fame cornerback, and Colorado coach Deion Sanders, was among the most discussed prospects entering the draft. He stands out not only for his significant celebrity and personality but also for his swagger.
Despite rumors of Sanders’ stock falling ahead of the draft, there were still speculations that he could be selected early in the first round. That never happened, as Cam Ward and Jaxon Dart were the only quarterbacks drafted in the first round.
Besides the anonymous talks about his attitude, the other factor was that this year’s draft was not very deep with top-tier quarterbacks. Teams filled other needs with better fits and better available players at the time of their picks.
It is widely recognized that the 2025 NFL Draft class is not as strong at quarterback compared to previous years. Although Cam Ward was the first quarterback selected, the overall depth and quality of the available quarterbacks are considered below average.
It would be more of a surprise if he did not get drafted on Day Two than it was on Day One. The NFL has a problem with quarterback depth, and many teams don’t have a decent starting QB. I imagine one of those quarterback-hungry teams will take a shot at him on Friday.
