The Farrell Five: The Most Overrated Projected First-Rounders

Overrated? Underrated? That’s the NFL Draft every year. These are my top five overrated projected first rounders.

1. QB Caleb Williams, USC

— He’s a rare talent, I’ll admit, but can he stay on time in the NFL, and more importantly, can he be the leader that I don’t think he can be?

Nov 4, 2023; Los Angeles, California, USA; USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams (13) runs towards the bench after a touchdown is scored during the first quarter against the Washington Huskies at United Airlines Field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

2. OT JC Latham, Alabama

— He’s a mauler in the run game, but I worry about his pass pro and wonder why he wasn’t more dominant in certain games.

Mar 3, 2024; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Alabama offensive lineman JC Latham (OL41)during the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium.

3. Chop Robinson, Penn State

— He’s an elite athlete but a bit of a tweener and lacks length.

Feb 29, 2024; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Penn State defensive lineman Chop Robinson (DL45) works out during the 2024 NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium.

4. Kool-Aid McKinstry, Alabama

— He has good size but I worry about his high-end speed.

Oct 1, 2022; Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Kool-Aid McKinstry (1) tackles Arkansas Razorbacks wide receiver Jadon Haselwood (9) in the first quarter at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

5. Michael Penix Jr., Washington

— When he moves his feet, it’s an issue passing, so I worry if you get him off his spot, he will struggle.

Mar 2, 2024; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Washington quarterback Michael Penix (QB08) during the 2024 NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium.
