Fact or Fiction: Alabama Recruiting, Demise of the Big 12 & Pac-12 , NIL

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

Alabama now has the best class in 2023

Farrell’s take: FICTION

The Tide are getting close with massive commitments from RBs Justice Haynes and Richard Young and DB Caleb Downs and they have two good QBs in this class but they’re still a step behind Notre Dame, Ohio State and Texas to me. But with only 16 commitments they have more room to jump up the rankings as the Buckeyes class has settled a bit and Notre Dame will deal with some shuffling it seems. Texas is intriguing to me. While I don’t have Arch Manning ranked as high as anyone else in this industry, the players he’s helped land are elite and the WR and DB classes are elite. For once we will have a good battle down the stretch between the SEC and some other Power Five conferences.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

The Big 12 and PAC-12 are destroying themselves

Farrell’s take: FACT

This is so dumb. I’ve been listening to Big 12 Brett Yormark spout about how his conference is “open for business” and then listening to PAC-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff respond and say he’s not sure if “We haven’t decided whether we’re going shopping there or not” and I want to pull my hair out. Neither of these men were in charge essentially when they let Texas and Oklahoma and USC and UCLA slip out of their hands respectively but listen up gents — your conferences are dying. No one is open for business or shopping unless it’s the SEC or Big Ten as the ACC quietly and smartly stands on its Grant of Rights. Come together with your massive egos and form a conference no one can plunder anymore. That’s your only hope. This back and forth is ridiculous and honestly makes you both look incompetent.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

Lane Kiffin is right, NIL is “legalized cheating”

Farrell’s take: FACT

Everyone loves a Lane Kiffin quote. Maybe they love a Mike Leach quote a little better, but Kiffin was spot on when he said NIL is “legalized cheating”. And we all know why. The NCAA relied on the government to regulate NIL and when they didn’t it just went into full force with no parameters. Basically it was like leaving my dog alone with a steak and telling him not to eat it. It was dumb and foolish. And now who knows what will happen. The Nick Sabans of the world are acccusing, the Jimbo Fischers of the world are denying and the coaches working hard in recruiting are getting overlooked as everyone points to money. It’s not even good for the players yet that’s how messed up it is. What’s my solution? Maybe a time machine at this point because the genie can’t be put back in the bottle.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
