In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Bill Belichick will win 10 games next season for UNC.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
The schedule is easy as it can be with no Miami, no SMU, no Louisville and so on. But Belichick isn’t a miracle worker and it will take time for him to turn this around if he does it at all. This is a 6-6 team on the downslide and a coach who has never been at this level in college. Even with all those Super Bowls I can’t imagine anyone penciling in 10 wins. Yet everyone is doing it.
2. Rich Rodriguez can have the same success at West Virginia.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
More Sports News
West Virginia was a nightmare for teams back in Rich Rod’s first go around and he found and developed talent like no one else. And he’s a heckuva coach. But even in a Big 12 that is spotty I can’t see him having the same level of success. He’s been up and down at other Power Four stops, more down than up, and this landscape may be better for smaller programs but I don’t think it’s going to be better for him. Remember he went 60-26 at WVU with three seasons of 10 wins or more. That’s not happening.

3. Ryan Day survives even with a first round loss.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Day has lost four straight to Michigan and this year’s loss was the worst. And he has yet to deliver a national title to Ohio State in following Urban Meyer. But even with a loss to Tennessee they won’t move on. His record is too good, he’s made the playoff too many times and there really isn’t an upgrade out there (Mike Vrabel isn’t happening). They will stay the course.
