Fact or Fiction - Notre Dame Recruiting

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

Conference realignment is far from being done

Farrell’s take: FACT

What I mean by this is that all the rumors out there regarding the SEC and Big Ten adding more teams and the Big 12 swallowing the PAC 12 are just that, rumors. We are headed to mega conferences, we know that. One or all of the ACC, Big 12 or PAC 12 will die a death of apathy as they get chopped up by the SEC and Big Ten. And some teams will be left out. But the who how and when we don’t know. Texas and Oklahoma took some people by surprise as did USC and UCLA because they seemed to occur so fast. This wasn’t fast. It’s been in the works for a long time. And your favorite team has had discussions, trust me. But the bottom line is this — until the Big Ten and SEC tap a team on the shoulder, everything that happens and is rumored now doesn’t mean much. The disparity in TV money is so large that this is Coke and Pepsi and everyone else is just RC Cola trying to carve a niche.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

Notre Dame will finish No. 1 in recruiting in 2023

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I love what Marcus Freeman is doing and honestly it shows a level of recruiting at Notre Dame that fans just felt wasn’t possible. Remember Brian Kelly promising top five classes? Freeman is doing something to deliver it. That being said it’s not wise to bet against SEC teams like Alabama and Georgia or even Ohio State with less academic hurdles. I have Notre Dame with a top five class which is honestly how you build a national title winner, it doesn’t have to be just No. 1 (ask Clemson) but I’ll take the field vs. The Irish for No. 1 overall.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

Arch Manning could be the sixth best QB in this class

Farrell’s take: FACT

I have Malachi Nelson and Dante Moore ahead of him and I honestly feel a case can be made for Christopher Vizzina, Jackson Arnold and Nico Iamaleva to be ahead of him as well. I try to keep watching the film without thinking of the last name Manning and when I do he’s in the middle of that group of six more than in the front.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
