Fact or Fiction: Hot seat for Hugh Freeze, Mizzou a pretender and Penn State’s lackluster offense

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at the hotseat for Hugh Freeze, Mizzou being a pretender and Penn State’s offense

In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Hugh Freeze is on the hot seat.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Only delusional Auburn fans expected their team to be good this season but the rest of us knew this is a longer rebuild. While Hugh Freeze made a massive mistake not fixing his QB situation in the portal, recruiting in the 2024 class was excellent and 2025 is closing nicely with the flip of QB Deuce Knight. Bryan Harsin wasn’t given time because he was a reach as a head coaching choice in the SEC. Freeze belongs and will get time.

2. Missouri isn’t for real.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Mizzou had a solid season last year and surprised a lot of people but getting drilled by an average A&M team 41-10 has exposed them as pretenders. They just got past Vanderbilt who is a mid team despite their upset over Alabama and they struggled with Boston College who just lost to Virginia. Missouri could be in for a long season despite an easy schedule.

3. Penn State hasn’t fixed their offensive woes.

Farrell’s take: FACT

New OC, same issues. The Penn State offense is conservative and lacks explosiveness and it will hurt them again. Their schedule is pretty easy and 10-2 or even 11-1 looks possible and maybe even likely. But when it comes down to a need for big plays, they will fall short in the playoff. The wide receivers are average, Drew Allar is solid but not spectacular and they aren’t a team that can come back from 10 or more points to a very good team.
