In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he looks at whether James Franklin is making a fuss out of nothing, if Tennessee should be number one…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. James Frankin is right about the Michigan tunnel.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Well let me put it this way. He’s kinda right. The tunnel situation where both teams head to the locker room at the same time during the half is kinda not ideal. But it’s been this way for what? 100 years? And it should be changed now because some words and peanut butter sandwiches were exchanged? C’mon man. I like James Franklin I really do and I get where he’s coming from but this is kinda ridiculous. Tradition is tradition.

Sep 24, 2022; University Park, Pennsylvania, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin gestures from the sidelines during the fourth quarter against the Central Michigan Chippewas at Beaver Stadium. Penn State defeated Central Michigan 33-14.

2. The Vols should be No. 1

Farrell’s take: FACT

It’s kind of insane why they aren’t right? They have better wins than Georgia, Ohio State and others and they’re not No. 1 simply because the pre-season polls, which are dumb, say so? And the excuse of some pollsters? Well, UGA and Tennessee will play each other anyhow so it will sort itself out. That makes zero sense. The Vols should be on top.

Oct 15, 2022; Knoxville, Tennessee, USA; Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker (5) is forced out of bounds after a run by Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Terrion Arnold (3) during the first half at Neyland Stadium.

3. Eli Drinkwitz is on the hot seat.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Nah. But if he loses to Vanderbilt then we can talk. Missouri has gone to a couple bowl games and recruiting is going okay so give him another season barring a horrible loss this weekend. Missouri fans are impatient but things aren’t as bad as they think and they are in most games. They just need to learn to win them.

Oct 1, 2022; Columbia, Missouri, USA; Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz looks on during the second half against the Georgia Bulldogs at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium.
