Fact or Fiction: Jason Garrett, Caleb Williams, Charles Kelly
In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Jason Garrett would have been a great hire for Stanford.
Farrell’s take: FACT
As a Princeton grad with NFL playing and coaching experience, he could sell the academics along with the football at the next level dream. Stanford honestly needed a big and recognizable name and it’s a tough blow that they couldn’t get it done with Garrett. I don’t think he’s a great coach — after all I’m a Cowboys fan — but he would have fit well.
2. Caleb Williams is a Heisman lock.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I think the USC QB wins it but after seeing Max Duggan win the Davey O’Brien Award, I’m not so sure. Williams has the better numbers, but Duggan won a lot of voters over with his Big 12 performance which outdid Williams and his gutty performance against Utah playing through injury. This should still be Williams but it’s not a slam dunk.

3. Charles Kelly is the right hire for Colorado.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I’m not sold on this one. Kelly has experience at FSU and most importantly Alabama but he’s honestly not a well known name in recruiting circles. And that could be fine as Deion will land the recruits with his name, but I’m also not enamored with his coaching resume. Pete Golding gets a lot of the heat for a lesser Alabama defense this season but the defensive backs were very bad by Alabama standards.
