Fact or Fiction:  Matt Rhule, Chase Brown, Bo Nix

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he determines if Matt Rhule is the right fit for Nebraska, if Chase Brown should…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Nebraska should go after Matt Rhule.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Rhule is a great coach despite his failure with the Carolina Panthers in the NFL. He did an amazing job rebuilding – no, let’s say saving – a Baylor team wrought with scandal. Nebraska doesn’t have off field issues but it’s a heckuva rebuild as well and Rhule has proven he has the scouting and development skills to overcome anything. Lance Leipold is my first choice for Nebraska but Rhule is now second.

Jan 1, 2020; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; Baylor Bears head coach Matt Rhule talks to Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart before the Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

2. Chase Brown should be in the Heisman discussion.

Farrell’s take: FACT

This is an absolute fact. The Illinois running back leads the country in rushing and Michigan’s Blake Corum gets mentioned so why not Brown? Illinois is 5-1 and in the top 25 because of Brown and great defense and you could argue no offensive player is more important to his team. Let’s get this man some votes.

Sep 2, 2022; Bloomington, Indiana, USA; Illinois Fighting Illini running back Chase Brown (2) runs the ball while Indiana Hoosiers defensive lineman Beau Robbins (41) defends in the first quarter at Memorial Stadium.

3. Bo Nix is the best player in the PAC 12.

Farrell’s take: FACT

You may laugh but look at the numbers. Nix leads the PAC 12 in rushing average (8.3 per carry) and rushing touchdowns (8). You read that right. Add in his passing stats (70% completion rate with 12 TDs and only 3 picks) and the Oregon QB is the best player in the conference. He’s overshadowed by many others like Caleb Williams (USC), Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA) and Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) but Nix is my pick.

Oct 8, 2022; Tucson, Arizona, USA; Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix (10) runs the ball against Arizona Wildcats defensive lineman Paris Shand (95) during the second half at Arizona Stadium.
