Fact or Fiction: Overrated Colorado, Day vs. Holtz, Notre Dame Coaching Problems

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he determines if Colorado was overrated heading into Week 4, if Lou Holtz should…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Colorado has been proven overrated.

Farrell’s take: FACT

It’s about time. TCU, you should be ashamed of yourself. Nebraska sucks and we never expected Colorado State to win, but TCU should have beaten the Buffs the way Oregon did if they had any ability to gameplan. But it doesn’t matter. Oregon finally stopped the hype train that is Deion Sanders and Colorado, and maybe now we can focus on real teams who have a shot at winning conference and national titles. The Buffs clearly should have never been ranked and didn’t belong on the field with the Ducks.

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix runs for a touchdown as the Oregon Ducks host Colorado in the Pac-12 opener Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore.

2. Lou Holtz should shut up.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Nah. Ryan Day and his team took exception to the former Notre Dame commenting that the Buckeyes under Day have lost games because they aren’t physical enough, and that’s fine. They should use it as motivation. But Holtz isn’t a coach anymore, and he’s been a long-time media member who can say whatever he wants. Sure, he was a bit over the top using Day’s name instead of general Buckeyes slander, but now he’s been proven wrong. So let him say the next dumb thing, it’s fine.

3. Notre Dame coaching led to the loss.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Sad to say, Marcus Freeman and his staff blew it. I don’t care what planet you’re on or what team you love. There’s no excuse for having 10 players on the field on the final play, with Ohio State needing a yard for a game-winning score. And for that missing 11th player to be a defensive lineman on such a short-yardage play? It’s just bad. That’s a tough way for a team that played its heart out to lose.
