Fact or Fiction: Pittman in Trouble, Clemson's Window, Caleb Williams
In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Dan Enos' firing is a sign Sam Pittman is in big trouble.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Enos should have been fired by the Arkansas head coach; that’s not the debate. The Arkansas offense has been inept, and the final straw was 3 points against a bad Mississippi State team. But when coaches start firing coordinators, coordinators that they hired, during the season it’s a sign that pressure is high from the top. Pittman needs a couple more wins this season, a 2-6 season (0-5 in conference) so far, to be safe into 2024 and if he survives he will be under serious pressure next season.
2. The Clemson national title window is closed.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
For this season, yes. But overall, no. People like to shut down Dabo Swinney and his chances to win another national title, and, while I’ll admit it’s a long shot, Clemson recruits well enough to win another with the right QB. Swinney will need to adapt and use the transfer portal more and I think he does that Florida State has become a problem in the ACC, but let’s not be dumb — Clemson is far from being a program out of the playoff picture, especially with expansion.

3. Caleb Williams is overrated.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Williams is good, very good. He’s not my No. 1 QB for the 2024 draft, as that’s been Drake Maye at UNC since last season, but he’s very good. But it’s becoming clear he’s not the generational talent everyone thinks he is, and his performances against ranked teams are becoming glaring. Against top 25 defenses, he completes 51% of his passes with 6 touchdowns and 6 picks. And his attitude isn't helping anything either. That’s not good.
