Fact or Fiction: USC, Tennessee, Mizzou

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

USC will make the playoff

Farrell’s take: FICTION

USC was No. 15 in the coaches poll and behind only Utah and Oregon so there’s some thought out there they could win the PAC 12. And with that a playoff run perhaps? Nope. Lincoln Riley is a great hire but he’s not a magician and he’s not going to turn a 4-8 football team into a playoff contender in year one. Caleb Williams, Travis Dye and Jordan Addison are great and all and they should push for 8 or 9 wins but watch how crazy the hype gets if they start 6-0 heading into Utah. And that could happen.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

The Vols are Georgia’s biggest competition in the East

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Give me Kentucky here as a much more balanced team. The Vols’ offense is great and fun to watch but there are questions marks on defense, while Kentucky is very quietly solid on both sides of the ball. It will come down to Will Levis and his step forward or backward but Kentucky is so well rounded they are my pick for No. 2 in the East.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

Mizzou will win 7 games or more

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Must be a negative day in my head with yet another FICTION but where do the wins come from? Let’s assume wins over Louisiana Tech, Abilene Christian, Vanderbilt and New Mexico State to get to 4 wins. Kansas State is a tough out of conference matchup and we have to assume losses to Georgia and Kentucky. That means three wins out of Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee. Possible? Yes. Likely? Not really. A 6-6 season is the best I can see.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
