In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. DJ Uiagalelei will succeed at Oregon State.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I’ve seen this before. A highly regarded prospect out of high school lacking success at his first stop and trying to resurrect his career. For every Kyler Murray or Justin Fields who just wanted out of their situations before they would have earned a starting role, this speaks more of Spencer Rattler, Jarrett Guarantano, or JT Daniels. You fail to meet expectations at one place you’ll fall short at the next.

Sep 24, 2022; Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA; Clemson Tigers quarterback DJ Uiagalelei (5) passes the ball under pressure from Wake Forest Demon Deacons defensive lineman Jasheen Davis (30) during the second half at Truist Field.

2. Jack Plummer lands at Louisville.

Farrell’s take: FACT

This was a no-brainer and should be official shortly. Plummer played under Jeff Brohm at Purdue and was quite successful although he was only an off-and-on starter. He left for Cal when Aidan O’Connell won the job and now he will rejoin his old coach at Louisville where he should be quite successful.

Nov 5, 2022; Los Angeles, California, USA; California Golden Bears quarterback Jack Plummer (13) looks to pass during the fourth quarter against the USC Trojans at United Airlines Field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

3. Ole Miss pulled a stunner with Chris Marshall.

Farrell’s take: FACT

It was supposed to be TCU remember? But after delaying his decision and taking a visit to Ole Miss, Lane Kiffin got his man. Rebels fans won’t say this is a stunner but there was a feeling that the A&M transfer had already decided to stay in Texas to play for TCU. A great get for Ole Miss if he can keep his head on straight.

Sep 3, 2022; College Station, Texas, USA; Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Chris Marshall (10) catches a pass during the second half against the Sam Houston State Bearkats at Kyle Field.
