Recruiting Fact or Fiction: Jerome Bettis Jr. to ND, Corey Simms Staying Home, Tarrion Grant Flipping

Will Jerome Bettis Jr follow in his father’s footsteps and end up in South Bend? Will Corey Simms stick in-state and commit to Missouri? And can Ryan Walters hold on…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition — I look at three big recent topics from the recruiting trail and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Jerome Bettis Jr. follows his dad to Notre Dame.

Farrell’s take: FACT

His dad was a legend at Notre Dame and is one of the best representatives of the university in history, as he continues to love the Irish. His son has a chance to follow in his footsteps and will do so, in my opinion, despite other quality offers. It’s just too hard to divert from a legacy when everything about it is what fits your ideals as a father and son. I think he lands in South Bend.

2. Corey Simms stays home and plays for Mizzou.

Farrell’s take: FACT

WR Ryan Wingo got away, and Simms could as well, but I think with Luther Burden’s success and the hole he will leave when he heads off to the NFL, it could be too hard for Simms to leave the state. And after the season Eli Drinkwitz had and the way recruiting is going, I think the Christian Brothers College star stays home despite pushes from USC, Tennessee, Kansas State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Penn State, and many others just coming in like UGA.

3. Tarrion Grant sticks with Purdue.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

The Tennessee DB recently committed to Purdue in what looks to me like a rash decision. Not that Purdue is a bad choice, as Ryan Walters did amazing things with DBs at Illinois, but Alabama has now entered the chat, and others will come on even stronger. Sometimes, having an early commitment from a 4-star kid like this is a disadvantage as it sparks even more interest from bigger schools. They have a long way to go to keep him.
