Recruiting Fact or Fiction: Noland vs. Raiola, Jeremiah Smith, Van Buren to Maryland

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition, he analyzes whether Air Noland will have more yards…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition — I look at three big recent topics from the recruiting trail and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Air Noland will put up better numbers than Dylan Raiola.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

It’s an interesting question, as Raiola is a former Buckeyes commitment, and Noland stepped into his place. Ohio State QBs put up much bigger numbers than UGA QBs in that balanced offense but it comes down to this — Raiola will 100 percent be the guy at Georgia after a season while Noland could be a portal kid with the depth OSU has at QB. I’d take Raiola as the safer bet to put up bigger numbers in his career.

2. UGA will now flip WR Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

They have a better chance now with Raiola on board, as Smith committed to Ohio State when Raiola was the Buckeyes QB of the future. There’s a connection there. But it’s not as big as the connection between Smith and OSU OC Brian Hartline and the way the Buckeyes produce WRs. I think he sticks in the end.

3. Maryland has a shot at QB Michael Van Buren.

Farrell’s take: FACT

May 20 is now the date for the commitment of the 4 star QB from Maryland and many think it will be either Penn State or Oregon. And recently I did hear the Ducks have the edge. But I’ve also heard he may not be a take for either PSU or Oregon which may sound for a 4 star kid but he lacks size and might not be what either program wants at this stage. Who knows? But I will tell you this — if he picks Maryland I won’t be surprised at all.
