Preseason 2022 SEC West Power Rankings: How the West Will be Won

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=”featured_image” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]The fireworks in the SEC West have already begun, as Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban have set it off already. Will Alabama keep its West Division crown? Will one of Saban’s former assistants finally remove him from the throne? In today’s story we present to you the mikefarrellsports.com 2022 SEC West Power Rankings.

#7: Auburn Tigers

Ok Auburn fans, we hear you. However, it is time to be completely honest about the state of the Auburn football program. It is currently on life support. Head coach Bryan Harsin has failed to meet the lofty expectations of the AU faithful, and you cannot be competitive in the SEC West – let alone the conference as a whole – when recruiting at the level that Auburn currently is.

#6: Mississippi State Bulldogs

Even with the respect that I have personally for Mike Leach, he’s yet to prove that his air raid offense can achieve consistent results in the toughest division in college football. Starkville is an electrifying atmosphere for CFB Saturdays. The Bulldogs always field a tough, gritty, and competitive team. For now, Mississippi State checks in at number six.

#5: LSU Tigers

The football program at Louisiana State University is at a crossroads. There’s a new big-name head coach in Baton Rouge. Brian Kelly will look to stabilize a ship that was once quickly sinking. Nobody honestly knows what to expect out of year one for Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers, so they sit at number five in the SEC West.

#4: Arkansas Razorbacks

This is where the Western Division really starts to get interesting. These next few teams, in my opinion, could line up on Saturdays and beat anyone in the country. Sam Pittman has brought an old-school toughness, discipline, and attention to detail to Fayetteville. If you’re a true fan of college football, then you have to respect what Coach Pittman has been able to do in his very short time as the head man of the Razorbacks. Today, Arkansas starts 2022 at number four.

#3: Ole Miss Rebels

Do I really need to say anything other than “Lane Kiffin is the head coach on the Grove”? College football world, Lane Kiffin has come of age. Absolutely one of the top few head coaches nationally, Lane has assembled enough talent at Ole Miss to be ultra dangerous. The only real question for the 2022 installment of the Ole Miss Rebels is will the defense slow opponents down just enough for Kiffin’s offense to win some close battles? Hats off to Coach Kiffin. Ole Miss at number three.

#2: Texas A&M Aggies

Jimbo Fisher has made one thing clear: expect an all-out war on October 8, 2022. Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama will absolutely be rocking. Coach Fisher and the Aggies will look to make it back-to-back wins against the mighty Crimson Tide. A tall, tall task for any team. This should be a one versus two match-up for the SEC West Division crown, and we have Texas A&M falling just short at number two.

#1: Alabama Crimson Tide

No need to beat around the bush here. The seemingly unstoppable machine assembled by the legendary Coach Nick Saban at Alabama is the Gold Standard of college football until proven otherwise. Returning one of the most complete and star-laden rosters in CFB, the expectation is national championship or bust for the Crimson Tide. They’re the gold standard for not only the SEC West, but the conference and the entire country.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
