Random college football thoughts from the Mind of Mike.
— Deion Sanders has done a solid job in Boulder and I never thought I’d say that. While the team is obviously very reliant upon Travis Hunter and his amazing skills and a QB drop off is very likely once Shedeur is gone, Deion has improved from year one to year two coaching up some key areas. Will he stay? I think it’s unlikely but if he does it will be tough sledding without his superstars and he’ll need be more balanced when it comes to the portal vs high school recruiting, but a close loss to a solid Kansas State team impressed me.
— Clemson is better than Miami. I know that’s hard to say the way the Tigers looked against Georgia but the light has gone on for Cade Klubnik and this roster is very deep and talented. Miami has struggled with some mid teams recently and I still don’t trust Cam Ward as he is turnover prone. They don’t square off in the regular season but I am leaning towards Clemson in the ACC title game at least for now.

— Let’s not overreact to a one point loss on the road to a top three team shall we? Ryan Day’s less-than-stellar record against top five teams is being tossed about and that’s legit fodder. 1-7 against top five teams is bad but this Ohio State team is still formidable and will be playing for the Big Ten title and in the playoff soon. If they fall short in both, Day can be skewered but not yet.
— The Vols offense hasn’t looked great but a win is a win. Arkansas humbled them a bit and the Gators defense had their number during the first half but pulling out that victory was key. Nico Iamaleava is still young, he’s not the savior everyone thought he’d be and that’s good news. This team can win games with defense and the run game, and once he gets more experience they can be elite.
